Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will be required to perform all the duties of a staff nurse, senior staff nurse, and charge nurse, plus the following:
- Oversee and coordinate the patient's plan of care.
- Evaluate nursing care and nursing documentation through daily unit/area rounds and make changes in nursing practice where appropriate.
- Manage and monitor the Unit's ongoing quality assessment and improvement activities.
- Maintain the unit's disaster and fire preparedness/
- Participate in the short and long-range planning for and development of the patient care unit. Develop unit goals and establish unit/group norms.
- Investigate and respond to patient/family/employee complaints.
- Collaborate with the nursing shift coordinator to arrange patient referrals and the repatriation of patients where necessary.
- Take responsibility for ordering high-cost budget equipment and accountability for equipment inventory.
- Determine the specific professional development needs of employees, plans programs and coordinate with nursing education.
- Evaluate performance and assess staff competency and provide feedback to staff.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Nursing required
- Master's degree in Nursing very strongly preferred
- Current nursing (RN) license in Canada or the United States, and
- A minimum of 10 years of experience as an RN, of which at least three years of current experience must be gained in managing the relevant area (OR/PACU) in a mid- to large-sized acute-care hospital in the USA or Canada.
