The Department of Neurosciences at King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Centre – Jeddah, is a distinguished department in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, providing tertiary care service for patients with a wide range of diseases and disorders affecting the central and peripheral nervous systems. It is a team effort of the different sections including Neurosurgery, Adult Neurology, Pediatric Neurology, Psychiatry, psychology and the clinical Neurophysiology laboratory. In the past year, the Department saw around one thousand three hundred (1,300) patients per month and performed surgical procedures for three hundred and thirty (330) patients with different types of surgery including basal skull, endovascular, brain tumour resection and other types of complicated surgeries.
The modern Clinical Neurophysiology Laboratory provides a full range of diagnostic procedures including electroencephalography (EEG), short term Video-EEG, nerve conduction studies, electromyography (EMG), evoked potential studies, multiple sleep latency tests, long-term in patient video-EEG monitoring (extracranially and intracranially) for epilepsy (LTME) and intra-operative electrophysiological monitoring. In 2007 approximately one thousand three hundred (1,300) procedures were performed including forty five (45) LTME patients monitored for an average stay of eight (8) days/year.
Requirements:
- Medical Degree
- American Boards or Canadian FRCSC in Neurosurgery
- A minimum of three years post-specialty certification experience in North America.
