The unit has a capacity of 15 beds. 12 rooms provide single occupancy and 3 rooms are doubled.
Patients are admitted under Medical Oncology and Hematology services. BMT is carried out at an average of 1 per month. All staff are required to be certified in Chemotherapy administration, this teaching and supervision is provided by the unit Nurse Educator.
The unit has a total of 30 staff from Patient Care Assistants to Registered Nurses. The Head Nurse of the unit also supervises the Pediatric Outpatient Treatment Area which can accommodate 9 patients.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree or Associate’s degree or Diploma in Nursing, and
- Current nursing (RN) license in Canada or the United States, and
- A minimum of two years current, full-time experience as an RN in pediatric oncology, working in a mid- to large-sized acute-care hospital in North America.
