Anesthesiologists at the King Faisal Specialist Hospital & Research Centre in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia provide services to:
- 17 general operating room theatres (more than 10,900 cases annually)
- four cardiac operating room theatres (more than 1,600 cases annually)
- labour & delivery (1,300 deliveries annually, of which 65% are high risk)
- MRI
- radiation therapy
- dental anesthesia
- an Chronic Pain/Advanced Pain Management service
- an Acute Pain Management Clinic (receives more than 2,500 visits annually)
- an Pre-Anesthesia Clinic (receives more than 7,800 visits annually)
Approximately 50% of the patient load is pediatric patients under 15 years of age; therefore, pediatric experience is a plus.
It is a 44-hour workweek, with on-call once or twice a month. And the workload, which is not bad, involves interesting and often unusual cases.
The Department of Anesthesiology has 33 Consultants Anesthesiologists on staff, who have been trained in Saudi Arabia, the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Scandinavia, Europe, and South Africa.
Prior to offering a permanent one- or two-year contract, the hospital invites doctors for a one-month locum. This provides an opportunity to see the hospital, the department, Riyadh, and Saudi Arabia before making a long-term commitment.
Requirements:
- American Boards or Canadian FRCPC in Anesthesiology, and
- A minimum of three years post-specialty certification experience in anesthesiology in North America.
