Medical Oncology, which is staffed by eight Consultant Medical Oncologist physicians, is part of the Cancer Center (KFCC) at the King Faisal Specialist Hospital & Research Centre in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
The section treats patients with lymphomas, breast cancer, gastrointestinal cancer, genito-urinary cancer, soft-tissue and bone sarcoma, and head and neck cancer. Its facilities include:
- 32 inpatient beds, four of which are designated for peripheral blood stem cell transplant
- 21 outpatient clinics per week, including multidisciplinary breast and sarcoma clinics
- an extremely active outpatient chemotherapy unit
- a transplant service for patients with malignant lymphoma and Hodgkin’s Disease
In 2006, the King Faisal Cancer Center saw:
- 2,000 inpatient admissions
- 109,000 outpatient clinic visits
- 23,700 outpatient chemotherapy doses
Prior to offering a permanent one- or two-year contract, the hospital invites doctors for a one-month locum. This provides an opportunity to see the hospital, the department, Riyadh, and Saudi Arabia before making a long-term commitment.
Requirements:
- American Boards or Canadian FRCPC in Oncology, and
- A minimum of three years post-specialty certification experience in Medical Oncology in North America.
