At the King Faisal Specialist Hospital & Research Centre in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, the nephrology service includes:
- nephrology consulting services
- kidney transplantation (in 2006, 140 kidney transplants were performed)
- hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis, and continuous renal replacement therapies
- outpatient clinics, which manages adult nephrology and renal transplant patients
- inpatient nephrology and renal transplant wards
Patients with acute renal failure and end stage renal disease are treated at the hospital-based hemodialysis units. Approximately 1,300 hemodialysis and hemofiltration patients (pediatric and adult) are treated per month. The Hemoadsorption/Direct Adsorption of Lipoproteins (DALI) procedure is available for patients with homozygous congenital hypercholesteremia.
Both the inpatient and the outpatient clinic receive referrals related to glomerulonephritis, hypertension, and post transplant complications.
Prior to offering a permanent one- or two-year contract, the hospital invites doctors for a one-month locum. This provides an opportunity to see the hospital, the department, Riyadh, and Saudi Arabia before making a long-term commitment.
Requirements:
- American Boards or Canadian FRCPC in Nephrology, and
- A minimum of three years post-specialty certification experience as a Nephrologist in North America.
