The Renal and Pancreatic Transplant section of the Department of Surgery at the King Faisal Specialist Hospital & Research Centre in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia has performed more than 1,200 kidney transplants since 1981. Fifty percent of these have been performed since 2000 and 140 kidney transplants were performed in 2006.
Patient survival is at 99% and graft survival rate is at 97%. Renal Transplant Surgeons (there are currently three on staff) have performed pediatric kidney transplants on children as small as 10.0kg. The Nephrology, Liver, and Renal Transplant unit has 27 beds.
Prior to offering a permanent one- or two-year contract, the hospital invites doctors for a one-month locum. This provides an opportunity to see the hospital, the department, Riyadh, and Saudi Arabia before making a long-term commitment.
Requirements:
- American Boards or Canadian FRCSC in General Surgery, and
- Specialized training in Transplant Surgery, and
- A minimum of three years post-specialty certification experience in Renal Surgery in North America.
