The Histology laboratory provides standardized diagnosis for hospital surgical specimens in addition to outside referral cases using the most advanced instruments and techniques.
Summary of services offered:
- Routine histology on fresh or formalin-fixed tissue
- Frozen section on fresh tissue
- Histochemical stains
- Immunohistochemical stains
- Immunoflourescence on fresh skin and renal biopsies
- In-situ hybridization ( HPV, HSV, CMV, EBV ).
- Muscle histochemistry
The Histology lab currently has the following equipments: 3 Shandon cryostats; 3 Tissue Tek processors; 2 Milestone Microwave processors; Microm microtomes; Tissue Tek automated H&E stainer; Sakura coverslipper; Xylene recyler
Requirements:
Supervises operations of a designated section of the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine (DPLM). Ensures that standards of quality and efficiency are maintained in accordance with policy and objectives. Liaises with Laboratory Administrator, DPLM.
- Bachelor’s degree (USA) or Completion of Medical Technology program (Canada), and
- Current Technologist-level (e.g., MT) registration with ASCP or CSMLS
- Minimum 5 years recent experience in histology, including one year current in a supervisory role in histology working in a large hospital/facility in North America.
