Summary of Services Offered:

  • Culturing and Karyotyping of peripheral bloods for routine chromosome analysis and Fanconi breakage study, bone marrows, leukemic bloods,  amniotic fluid, chorionic villi, skin, and POC’s
  •  Culturing only for DNA testing
  • FISH  is performed using microdeletion and locus specific probes, oncology probes, paint probes, telomere testing,  and Her-2-neu.

The approximate number of specimens received and processed by subsection monthly are as follows:
Peripheral blood(including Newborns and Fetal bloods) – 158
Bone Marrow– 213
Amniotic Fluid – 8
Chorionic villi – 2.0
Skin/ Product of Conception – 4.0

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree (USA), or completion of  Medical Technology program (Canada), and
  • Current Technologist-level (e.g., MT) registration with the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or the Canadian Society for Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS), and
  • A minimum of two years of current, full-time experience as a registered Medical Technologist in cytogenetics in a mid- to large-sized hospital in North America.
