The Radiation Therapy Department at the King Faisal Specialist Hospital & Research Centre in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia treats cancer patients of all ages.

Patient care is provided by a multidisciplinary team that consists of Radiation Oncologists, Radiation Therapists, Radiation Physicists, Dosimetrists, and Radiation Nurses.

The department offers state-of-the-art equipment and treatment techniques, including: three dimensional conformal radiation therapy (Advantage Sim); stereotactic radiosurgery (eight procedures were performed in 2006); and Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT).

The department operates five days per week. Its activities in 2006, include:

• 55 total body irradiation for bone marrow transplants
• 48,000 outpatient visits
• 1,300 new cancer patients
• 23,000 radiation treatment visits
• 82,000 radiation treatment portals

There are currently 24 Radiation Therapists on staff.

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree/Associate’s degree/Diploma in Radiation Therapy (minimum three-year program), and
• Current registration with the Canadian Association of Medical Radiation Technologists (CAMRT) or the American Society of Radiologic Technologists (ASRT), and
• A minimum of two years experience as a Radiation Therapist in a mid- to large-sized hospital in North America.
