Nurses in the Cardiology Unit at the King Faisal Specialist Hospital & Research Centre in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia function within a total care nursing system. The Cardiology Unit treats stable adult patients. It has a total of 28 beds:
- 21 cardiology beds are for patients with post-acute coronary syndrome, heart failure, cardiomyopathy, endocarditis, arrhythmia; patients who are pre-op surgical open-heart; and patients receiving pre-cutaneous interventional procedures for cardiac conditions
- three thoracic beds are for patients requiring thoracotomy procedures or surgical intervention
- four protocol beds are for general medical patients admitted for investigative workup, medical treatment, or pre-operative care
The Cardiology Unit also receives patients with stable CABG/valve who are transferred from the hospital’s Cardiovascular Telemetry Unit.
Nurse to patient ratio:
1 : 3 or 4 during day shifts
1 : 4 or 5 during night shifts
1 : 2 for post PCI with femoral sheath in situ
Shifts are 12-hours in length and follow the American rotation. Overtime is available.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree or Associate’s degree or Diploma in Nursing, and
- Current nursing license in Canada or the United States, and
- A minimum of two years experience as a Registered Nurse working in a mid- to large-sized acute-care hospital in North America.
