Nurses in the Cardiovascular Telemetry Unit at the King Faisal Specialist Hospital & Research Centre in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia function within a total care nursing system. The Cardiovascular Telemetry Unit treats both adult and pediatric cardiovascular surgical patients post-CSICU. It has a total of 32 beds:
- 22 cardiovascular beds: the most common adult procedures are CABG, valve repair/replacement, and heart transplant
- three vascular beds: vascular surgeries including AAA repair and fem-pop bypass
- seven pediatric cardiology beds: the most common pediatric procedures are correction of cardiac congenital anomalies (e.g. arterial switch, VSD repair, ASD repair, AVSD correction, PDA and TOF)
Nurse to patient ratio:
1 : 3 during day shifts
1 : 4 during night shifts
(staffing ratios depend on patient acuity)
Shifts are 12-hours in length and follow the American rotation. Overtime is available.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree or Associate’s degree or Diploma in Nursing, and
- Current nursing license in Canada or the United States, and
- A minimum of two years experience as a Registered Nurse working in a mid- to large-sized acute-care hospital in North America.
