There are 17 general Operating Room theatres at the King Faisal Specialist Hospital & Research Centre in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, and they are managed according to the standards set out by the Association of Perioperative Registered Nurses (AORN).
All general surgical procedures are performed, as well as hepatobiliary, orthopedic, neurosurgery, gynecology, urology, ENT, pediatric, ophthalmology, and plastic surgical procedures.
The Clinical Instructor is responsible for coordinating continuing education in collaboration with the department of Nursing Development & Saudiization and with the unit’s Education Coordinator (to whom s/he reports directly).
In 2006, 10 OR staff nurses were trained to use and assist with robotic surgery; OR staff nurses were also trained in laparoscopic surgery.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Nursing, and
- Current nursing license in Canada or the United States, and
- A minimum of five years experience as a Registered Nurse at a large acute-care teaching hospital in North America, including a minimum of one year as a Clinical Instructor.
