The King Fahad National Center for Children’s Cancer Research in Riyadh (commonly referred to as the “Children’s Cancer Centre”) at the King Faisal Specialist Hospital & Research Centre is:
- The largest dedicated pediatric cancer and blood disorders program in the Arabian Peninsula.
- The largest pediatric stem cell transplant center in the region (it performed 114 stem cell transplants in 2006 alone).
- The regional referral centre for complicated non-malignant hematological disorders.
The Children’s Cancer Centre consists of two inpatient care wards (Ward A has 16 beds and Ward B has 20 beds), an outpatient clinic, a drop-in clinic, and a four-bed pediatric oncology ICU. It receives between 350 and 450 new cases annually, and patients range in age from newborn to 13 years. The most commonly treated problems include:
- newly diagnosed acute leukemias requiring induction therapies
- neoplastic disease and the complications of treatment
- benign hematological conditions
- coagulation disorders
- pre- and post-bone marrow transplant care
- immune deficiency syndromes
- metabolic disease
The Clinical Instructor is responsible for coordinating continuing education in collaboration with the department of Nursing Development & Saudiization and with the unit’s Education Coordinator (to whom s/he reports directly).
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Nursing, and
- Current nursing license in Canada or the United States, and
- A minimum of five years experience as a Registered Nurse at a large acute-care teaching hospital in North America, including a minimum of one year as a Clinical Instructor.
