Nursing Affairs at the King Faisal Specialist Hospital & Research Centre in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia provides comprehensive nursing coverage of more than 700 beds, 650,000 outpatient visits, and 2,100 home care visits in the areas of ambulatory medicine, cardiovascular, critical care, children’s cancer, emergency medicine, family medicine, home care, maternal child, general medical/surgical, oncology care, palliative care, and perioperative.
Nurses are recruited for around the world, and of the 2,000 nursing staff:
- 22% are from Saudi Arabia
- 20% are from Western countries
- 19% are from the Philippines
- 8% from North and South Africa
The Education Coordinator works within the division of Nursing Development & Saudiization, which is responsible for all nursing staff development and education. S/He reports to the Assistant Chief of Nursing Affairs.
Some of the accomplishments of Nursing Development & Saudiization in 2006:
- 3,700 nurses attended courses and workshops
- the Competency Based Practice program was revised and standardized
- 13 nurses passed Critical Care Nursing courses, including five Saudi nurses
- 400 new staff completed the General Nursing Orientation
Requirements:
- Master’s degree in Nursing, and
- Current nursing license in Canada or the United States, and
- A minimum of eight years experience as a Registered Nurse at a large acute-care teaching hospital in North America, including a minimum of one year in staff development.
