The Wound Care Program at the King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Centre in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, provides advice to staff of a specialist nature regarding complicated issues
related to wound, skin and drainage problems, including product supply issues. The program
covers paediatrics and adults of all ages, and all specialities, both inpatient and outpatient, and
Home Health Care areas.
The program is also involved in the pressure ulcer prevention program, which includes review of incidence and prevalence statistics, as part of an ongoing hospital wide audit and performance improvement cycle, and the production of reports in relation to this. In addition, the program is also responsible for the trial, and provision of new wound, and skin care products; and the development of policies, standards of care, and guidelines related to wound and skin care.
Frequent procedures/services/functions:
- Holistic assessment of patients with complicated wound and skin breakdown on a referral basis.
- Identification of intrinsic and extrinsic factors that may delay the patient’s progress.
- Collaboration with the multidisciplinary team.
- Providing advice, and assisting with the plan of care for patients with complicated wound and skin breakdown.
- Providing assistance with supplies and resources as necessary.
- Follow-up of patients in the outpatient and home health care areas as needed.
- Advising on pressure area care, pressure relieving devises and skin related problems.
- Providing and updating patient education material.
- Identifying educational needs of nursing staff and providing classes and materials for staff development.
- Reviewing, trialing and assisting in the maintenance of supplies in the hospital.
- Collection and dissemination of data on patient visits, and pressure ulcer incidence and prevalence.
- Identifying areas for performance improvement in program area, and planning, implementing and reviewing projects.
Hours of operations:
Saturday to Tuesday: 7:00 am - 5:00 pm
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Nursing
- Valid nursing license from either the United States or Canada
- Minimum of four years of experience at a large North American acute-care hospital, including one-year of recent experience in a similar role.
