The 18-bed Pediatric ICU at the King Faisal Specialist Hospital & Research Centre in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia treats patients aged newborn to 14 years. Nurses in the PICU function within a total care nursing system.
Many patients have complex congenital anomalies. The primary medical conditions seen in the PICU include:
- congenital heart disease and pre- and post-operative cardiac surgery
- hematology/oncology (with complications)
- immuno-compromised patients (The King Faisal Hospital is the only hospital in Saudi Arabia that treats patients with severe combined immune deficiency, and other primary immune deficiency diseases)
- acute metabolic disorders (e.g. MSUD)
- surgical patients (general, neuro, vascular)
- ENT
- endocrinology
Nurse to patient ratio:
1 : 1 or 2
Shifts are 12-hours in length and follow the American rotation. Overtime is available.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree or Associate’s degree or Diploma in Nursing, and
- Current nursing license in Canada or the United States, and
- A minimum of two years experience as a Registered Nurse working in a mid- to large-sized acute-care hospital in North America.
