The Palliative Care Unit & Rheumatology Unit (F2-2) at the King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Centre in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, has 17 beds. F2-2 has 10 beds for pediatric and adult palliative patients who are in need of acute aggressive symptom management, respite and terminal care. In addition, there are 5 beds for Rheumatology patients and 2 chronic beds for patient from ICU.

  • Medication delivery including radiation administration and management
  • Patient/family education
  • 12 lead EKG
  • Patient assessment and evaluation
  • Blood products administration
  • Management of artificial airways
  • Chest tube management
  • Oxygen therapy and pulse oximetry
  • Central IV line management
  • Maintenance of skin integrity
  • Pain management including epidural pain management
  • Palliative Radiation therapy management
  • Bereavement care
  • Spiritual care
  • Emotional support
  • Wound care
  • Ostomy care
  • Family Conferences

Nurse/Patient Ratios:
* Days (Palliative Care and Rheumatology) - 1:3
* Night (Palliative Care and Rheumatology) - 1:4
* Days & Nights (Chronic Beds) - 1:2 OR 1:1, according to the patient needs


  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing or Diploma in Nursing (NOTE: degree/diploma must be a minimum three-year NURSING curriculum; degree/diploma CANNOT be online or distance education) (Due to licensing requirements, shorter degree/diploma programs are NOT accepted)
  • Associate Degree in Nursing of minimum two-year duration (Due to licensing requirements, shorter programs are NOT accepted, online programs are not accepted)
  • Current nursing (RN) license in Canada or the United States,
  • A minimum of two years of recent experience as a Registered Nurse working in a mid- to large-sized acute-care hospital in North America, of which at least one year of current, full-time experience must be on a palliative care unit.
