According to a recent article in Arabian Business, the United Nations has issued a general warning regarding the spread of a mutant strain of the H5N1 virus, more commonly known as “bird flu”. Spreading west from Asia, the virus is threatening to re-emerge in Egypt from where it may migrate to the European continent. The UN’s Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO) blames a negligent poultry industry for spurring the possible epidemic, which has already claimed the lives of 331 people worldwide. Although the epidemic is threatening to spread, however, careful preparation and surveillance measures are being put in place to curb its progress. Looks like this bird has no wings.
