Saudi Arabia's English-language Arab News reports ongoing efforts of individual and small groups of Saudi women to drive, despite the official ban on women driving:
June 29, 2011: The Arab News reports a woman arreted for driving in the Sulaimaniya district south of Jeddah.

June 24, 2011: The Arab News speaks with several women driving around Jeddah and Al Khobar, and even shows a picture of one of these brave ladies, Ms Alsharifa Lana Engawi.
June 23, 2011: The Arab News speaks with representatives of the group Saudi Women for Driving, about women who drove in Riyadh.
June 21, 2011: The Arab News speaks with Saudi women who are part of the Facebook campaign, Women2Drive.
June 17, 2011: Saudi women launch a right-to-drive campaign on Facebook and they start tweeting (using the tag: #women2drive)
June 9, 2011: The Arab News reports that six women were detained for driving in Riyadh.
While of course some Saudis disapprove, some others don't understand the problem, as many say that women drive in rural areas already, and also point out that Islam does not ban women from driving, pointing out that even the Prophet Mohammed's wives rode their own camels.
