A recent article by the South Atlantic News Agency reports that the collapse of Blackberry’s servers earlier this October resulted in significant drops in the number of car accidents in Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arab Emirates. The Director of Abu Dhabi’s Traffic Police claims accidents were reduced by as much as 40%. Dubai also experienced a significant drop in traffic accidents during the outage, according to author Chris Matyszczyk in his discussion of the topic. The author suggests Blackberry stage more outages to teach UAE motorists how to drive more attentively. This is not very reassuring, according to Matyszczyk, seeing as the motto of the Abu Dhabi Police reads: “We ensure your safety in the fastest way.”
