King Faisal Specialist - Riyadh Opens New Emergency Tower
The opening of the new, freestanding tower for Emergency Medicine at the King Faisal Specialist Hospital, Riyadh, will animate those among us who thrive on change, on taking on new responsibilities, or simply working in a sparkling new setting.
The King Faisal Specialist Hospital is the choice tertiary-care referral hospital for the entire Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. But the current Emergency Medicine Department is hard-pressed to meet the demands of a hospital with 980 beds. At present, the EM service sees 175 patients per day. Although the department has 32 beds, it has 54 beds occupied. So the need for an expanded service is urgent.
In the spring of 2017, the new, freestanding tower for Emergency Medicine will be opened. It will have in excess of 100 beds on three floors: one floor for pediatric emergency patients; one for adult emergencies; and one floor for the Clinical Decision Unit, i.e., the Observation Unit.
A new staffing model is also being implemented. The tower will have a Nursing Program Director for EMS, plus three Nurse Managers for Emergency Medicine (one for each floor), and five Assistant Nurse Managers. We currently have vacancies for the Program Director, the three Nurse Managers, three Assistant Nurse Managers, and for a large number of EM nurses.
So if you are open to taking your skills to a multinational setting and if the idea of building and growing a new emergency medicine service excites you, joining the EM team at the King Faisal Specialist Hospital would, I believe, be the adventure for you.
