Competency-based nursing is practiced in the Intensive Care Unit at The King Faisal Specialist Hospital & Research Center in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, which has a total of 54 beds divided into four units:
1,500 patients (age 14 and up) are admitted annually. Approximately 65% of patients are surgical cases. Registered respiratory therapists (RRTs) provide continuous respiratory support. The ICU uses the Pyxis medication system and the ICG/Vigileo Hemodynamic monitoring system. Nurse to patient ratio: 1 : 1 or 2 Requirements:
