RN - Solid Organ Transplant, Hepatobillary & Nephrology - Riyadh, Saudi Arabia

UNIT DESCRIPTION:

Nurses in the Medical Nephrology, Medical/Surgical Liver & Renal Transplantation unit at the King Faisal Specialist Hospital & Research Centre in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, function within a total care nursing system. The 33-bed unit (B-2) treats both adult and pediatric patients in the four areas:

i) Adult Nephrology:

  • Uncontrolled HTN
  • Nephrotic syndrome
  • Acute & chronic renal diseases
  • Polycystic kidneys (PKD)
  • Dialysis (including gortex graft, arterio-venous fistula, and fluid and diet management)
  • CAPD (including tunnel infections, emergency ultra-filtration, etc.)

ii) Pre & Post Renal Transplantation:

  • Cadaveric transplantation as well as living related/non-related transplantation
  • Negative cross-match transplantation
  • Immuno-adsorption
  • Total plasma exchange & plasmapheresis (TPE)

iii) Hepatobillary & Liver Diseases:

  • Cadaveric transplantation as well as living related/non-related transplantation
  • Ca of liver
  • Cryptogenic liver cirrhosis
  • End stage liver diseases
  • Viral Hepatitis B & C

iv) Small Bowel Transplant

  • Colitis diseases
  • Colon Ca
  • Short bowel syndrome

The unit has a procedure room where various procedures (e.g., renal biopsies) are performed, two negative-pressure rooms.

Nurse to patient ratio: There are generally 11 nurses on day shifta nd 9 nurses on night-duty

Shifts are 12-hours in length and follow the American rotation. Overtime is available.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor's degree or Associate's degree or Diploma in Nursing, and
  • Current nursing (RN) license in Canada or the United States, and
  • A minimum of two years current experience as a Registered Nurse, working in a mid- to large-sized, acute-care hospital in North America, of which at least one year must be in the specialty area (i.e., solid organ transplant)
